Artworks by Daiki Kimoto

Timeline, Playlist Series, Acrylic on paper, 420mmx594mm, 2024

My art work explores the complex relationship between the internet and individual memory. Through painting,I offer a visual representation of the complexity of time and memory. I created a playlist of 100 songs and drew a line for each song.
For example, if I am listening to a song that is 1 minute and 23 seconds long,I very slowly draw a line for 1 minute and 23 seconds, which is the same time the music is playing.
When streaming music through a music streaming service, the exact time remaining is always displayed on the screen. Even though each song has a different playing time, the length of the timeline on the screen remains the same and only the speed at which the move commands changes based on the playing time.
On the other hand, in my art works, the size of the paper and the working window are fixed so that the visible length remains constant. These differences are expressed through variations in drawing time, line color and shading.
